R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Lucille H. Rochs of Fredericksburg is celebrating a very special event in her life with her 90th birthday on June 27, 2005; and WHEREAS, Born and raised in Sabinal, Mrs. Rochs received her bachelor's degree from Southwest Texas State University and her master's degree in education from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio; until her retirement, she worked as an educator, serving as a teacher, principal, and assistant to the superintendent in San Antonio, and taught graduate-level education courses for Sul Ross University at the Kerrville and Uvalde centers; and WHEREAS, In recent years, this esteemed community leader has dedicated an average of 35 hours a week to her volunteer work as an advocate for numerous organizations, including the Hill Country Memorial Health Care System, Texas Retired Teachers, the Gillespie County Cancer Society, the Beta Zeta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma International, and the Hill Country Higher Education Initiative in Fredericksburg; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Rochs is especially committed to serving abused children, students, and seniors, and she is an active member of the Hill Country Community Needs Council and the Gillespie County Child Services board; she is also a three-term president and member of the Gillespie County Committee on Aging and regional treasurer and former chair of the Region 8 Texas Department of Child Protection Council; and WHEREAS, In the past few years, she has been honored with the International Golden Rose Award from the Delta Kappa Gamma Society, the Meritorious Service Award for Volunteer Service from the Texas Council of Child Welfare Boards, the Founders' Award from the Texas Healthcare Trustees for her leadership and vision, and a Head Start Volunteer Award; and WHEREAS, Supported by her loving family, the indefatigable Lucille Rochs is a much-treasured member of her community; this nonstop nonagenearian keeps a schedule that would tire those many years her junior, and her energy, zest for life, and commitment to her fellow citizens of Fredericksburg are truly inspiring; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Lucille H. Rochs on the momentous occasion of her 90th birthday and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued happiness and achievement; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mrs. Rochs as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
