H.R. No. 2025
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The passing of Frank Cyril Kohoutek of Austin on
July 9, 2002, at the age of 62, saddened his family and many
friends, but offers an apt opportunity to reflect on a life well
lived; and
WHEREAS, He was born to Cyril and Margaret Kohoutek, who
immigrated from Czechoslovakia to Texas through Galveston; they
raised their son in Jarrell and taught him to be proud of his Czech
heritage; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Kohoutek served for four years in the U.S. Navy,
and he participated in the naval blockade that occurred during the
Cuban Missile Crisis before returning to Texas, where he married
Annette Mikolaj in 1964; and
WHEREAS, His great gifts as an engineer found expression in
his 37-year career with Huntsman Chemical and in the several
patents that he was instrumental in developing; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his life, Mr. Kohoutek drew strength and
sustenance from his deeply held faith, and he was a vital and valued
member of St. Louis Catholic Church, lending his time and talents to
the St. Louis Men's Club, the Liturgy Committee, and the Parish
Council, serving as an adult sponsor for the Catholic Youth
Organization, and participating with several offices for the
Diocese of Austin; and
WHEREAS, A well-rounded individual, Mr. Kohoutek also
pursued a rich variety of pastimes, and his interests included
carpentry, oil painting, astronomy, golf, fishing, and travel; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Kohoutek's great faith, generosity of spirit,
and love of life inspired all who knew him, and his spirit lives on
in their hearts; and
WHEREAS, Representative Aaron Pena has justly recognized
Frank Cyril Kohoutek by passing this resolution in his memory
during the Regular Session of the 79th Texas Legislature; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Frank Cyril Kohoutek
and extend sincere sympathy to his family: to his wife, Annette
Kohoutek; to his daughter, Michelle Kohoutek-Pena, her husband,
Mark Pena, and their children, Gabriel, Luke, Isabelle, Juliette,
Anna, and Esteban Pena; to his son, Christian Kohoutek, and his
wife, Cade; to his sisters, Mary Tschoerner, Frances Dyer, and
Martha Browning; and to his other family members and many friends;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas House
of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Frank
Cyril Kohoutek.
