H.R. No. 2026
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Maricela De Leon is an outstanding Texan who truly
exemplifies the finest qualities of youth today, and she is indeed
deserving of special recognition; and
WHEREAS, A 2001 graduate of South Texas High School for the
Health Professions, Ms. De Leon is currently attending The
University of Texas-Pan American, where she is a pre-law student
majoring in political science and finance; and
WHEREAS, Ms. De Leon has shown initiative, leadership, and a
determination to succeed by balancing her studies with a busy
schedule of work and volunteer activities; she serves as the
president of the Young Democrats at UTPA, was a precinct chair in
the 2004 Democratic primary, and has worked on a number of political
campaigns; and
WHEREAS, Deeply committed to the well-being of all, Ms. De
Leon has given of her time and talents to voter registration efforts
and has taught Sunday school at Saint Margaret Mary's Church; she
aspires to one day become a civil rights lawyer so that she may help
safeguard the liberties of those in need; and
WHEREAS, The daughter of Juan and Maria Guadalupe De Leon,
"Machito" is a continuing source of joy to her parents, to her
siblings, Melissa, Carlos, and Juan De Leon, Jr., and to her
extended family; and
WHEREAS, Representative Aaron Pena has justly recognized
Maricela De Leon by introducing this resolution in her behalf
during the Regular Session of the 79th Texas Legislature; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby commend Maricela De Leon for her many
accomplishments and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued
success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. De Leon as an expression of high regard by the
Texas House of Representatives.
