R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A full and generous life came to a close with the passing of Ezequiel C. Cavazos of Raymondville on February 24, 2005, at the age of 80; and WHEREAS, Mr. Cavazos was born in Lyford on July 8, 1924, to Willacy County pioneers Maria and Blas T. Cavazos; growing up, he worked alongside his parents and four siblings in the family general store while attending school; and WHEREAS, A devoted patriot, Mr. Cavazos enlisted in the U.S. Army to serve his country in World War II and participated in the Normandy invasion; lost behind enemy lines for more than 30 days, he was eventually reunited with his unit and completed his tour of duty; and WHEREAS, His meritorious record of service earned him the EAME Campaign Medal with four bronze stars, the victory ribbon, three overseas service bars, and a good conduct medal; Mr. Cavazos was later honored with the Cross of Malta as a member of the military honor guards of both the VFW and American Legion, and the Normandy Jubilee Medal at the 50th anniversary of D-Day for his role in liberating France; and WHEREAS, Following his return to civilian life, Mr. Cavazos wed Sofia Abrigo and embarked on a successful career as an automobile salesman that would span 35 years; known for his honesty, he took great pride in his work and in providing for his wife and eight children; and WHEREAS, An example to all who were privileged to know him, Zeke Cavazos will long be remembered for his love of family, community, and country, and although he will be greatly missed, his legacy will live on in the hearts of those whose lives he touched with his friendship and generosity; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay special tribute to the life of Ezequiel C. Cavazos and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife of 58 years, Sofia Abrigo Cavazos; to his children, Mary Hope, Nora Noreen, Ezequiel, Hector, Rolando, Harry, Elroy, and Norbert; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ezequiel C. Cavazos.
