H.R. No. 2029
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Juan and Consuelo Salas of Harlingen are outstanding
Texans whose achievements and civic service are truly worthy of
special recognition; and
WHEREAS, The couple have been married for 47 years and have
two children, Rafael Juan Salas and Sandra Itala Salas de Miyares;
in 1998, they returned to the Rio Grande Valley after living in
Chicago; and
WHEREAS, As a resident of Chicago, Consuelo M. Salas was a
three–term president of the Mexican Civic Society of Illinois,
which establishes programs of interest to the Hispanic community;
she was awarded the Ohtli Award, the Mexican government's highest
honor bestowed on an American citizen, for her dedication to
helping younger generations of Mexican Americans; she has received
numerous additional accolades from sources such as the Business
Women Organization, the Mexican Bar Association, the Mexican
American Chamber of Commerce, and the City of Chicago; and
WHEREAS, Joining his wife in his dedication to civic service,
Juan Salas, Jr., has distinguished himself as a board member of the
Chicago Boys and Girls Club and a member of the Michigan Mexican
Civic Society, and he was honored with the Civic Award from the
American GI Forum; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Salas have been involved in
get-out-the-vote efforts in Cameron County since 2000, and they
were both appointed to serve on the Harlingen Proud Advisory Board;
and
WHEREAS, Juan and Consuelo Salas are truly an inspiration to
all those who are fortunate to know them, and it is appropriate to
take this opportunity to commend them for their dedication to the
needs of their community; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Juan and Consuelo Salas for their civic
service and extend to them sincere best wishes for the future; and,
be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. and Mrs. Salas as an expression of high regard by
the Texas House of Representatives.
