R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A century of notable accomplishments, treasured memories, and happy times with family and dear friends is truly worth celebrating, and on May 11, 2005, Jack Griggs of Greenville commemorated this momentous occasion in his life; and WHEREAS, Mr. Griggs credits his longevity to daily Bible study, prayer, and service to his fellow human beings; a cornerstone of his life, his faith is reflected in his long involvement with his church; he has been a loyal congregant of Wesley United Methodist Church since 1918, is a charter member of the ALR Sunday school class, held the office of treasurer for the District Methodist Men for two decades, and was a Methodist lay speaker; and WHEREAS, With his beloved wife, the late Faye Riley Griggs, he conducted a ministry distributing scripture pamphlets on the streets of Dallas, and his volunteerism also included efforts in behalf of the American Red Cross and making numerous Santa visits to children's homes; and WHEREAS, A veteran of the U.S. Navy who served during World War II, he was employed for 46 years with First Greenville National Bank and for 10 years as bookkeeper for the Pythian Guest House, which is his current residence; and WHEREAS, He always enjoyed drawing cartoons and performing magic tricks and now delights in watching cartoons on television; he also finds inspiration in the verses from the 23rd Psalm; and WHEREAS, This red-letter birthday presents a fitting opportunity to honor an exceptional gentleman who has shared so much with others; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Jack Griggs on the joyous occasion of his 100th birthday and extend to him best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Griggs as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
