R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Clinton Willis Barkley of Bedford has returned stateside after sustaining injuries in Iraq, and he is most deserving of our highest praise for risking his life in service to his country; and WHEREAS, On April 4, 2005, this dedicated soldier was injured while conducting a reconnaissance mission in Fallujah, and his heroic actions and unwavering courage in combat have earned him the Purple Heart; and WHEREAS, Lance Corporal Barkley is the son of proud parents Robert Barkley and Debby Reeves; born in Arlington and reared in Bedford, he attended L. D. Bell High School, where he played on the Blue Raider football team and was a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes; after receiving his diploma in 2001, he enlisted in the Marines and graduated from boot camp in September of that year; and WHEREAS, Since joining the armed forces, Lance Corporal Barkley has been promoted twice and completed Basic Reconnaissance Course, Jump School, and the Survival Evasion Resistance Escape School (SERE); in January 2003, he was deployed to Iraq, where he served six months in Operation Iraqi Freedom; and WHEREAS, This courageous Texan was deployed for a second tour in February 2005; stationed at Camp Fallujah, he once again served his nation with distinction and honor; and WHEREAS, Americans owe a profound debt of gratitude to Lance Corporal Barkley and to all of the country's military personnel, for they are called on to bear great, often unimaginable, burdens, and they render service and sacrifice that is truly beyond measure; and WHEREAS, Through his unfaltering devotion to duty, honor, and this nation, Clinton Barkley embodies the highest ideals of the U.S. armed forces, and it is indeed a privilege to join in welcoming him home; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby commend U.S. Marine Lance Corporal Clinton Willis Barkley for his service in Iraq and extend to him best wishes for a swift and complete recovery from his injuries; and, be it further RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared for Lance Corporal Barkley and his parents, Robert Barkley and Debby Reeves, as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
