R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, David Gannon of Mineola and his six-year-old golden retriever, Skater, won 10th place and helped their American Kennel Club obedience team to a fourth place finish at the international Crufts Obedience World Cup, which was held in Birmingham, England, in March 2005; and WHEREAS, Considered one of the most prestigious dog shows in the world, Crufts attracted more than 21,000 dogs and 120,000 visitors to its 2005 competition which took place over four days; named after its founder, Charles Cruft, the show was first established in 1891 and has been under the auspices of the UK Kennel Club since 1948; and WHEREAS, One of only three American Kennel obedience teams invited overseas, Mr. Gannon and Skater participated in a number of obedience events before an audience of about 1,000 people, not counting the viewers of the BBC broadcast of the show; Skater demonstrated that he certainly knows his owner well when he earned the top score in the event that required him to pick out his owner's scent among 10 cloths; and WHEREAS, Mr. Gannon first got involved in the dog obedience business 33 years ago, and today he and his wife own Top Dog Training Academy in Mineola, a school for dog obedience trainers; and WHEREAS, David Gannon has forged a special bond with his dog, Skater, and together this formidable team has brought great credit to their home state of Texas with their stellar performance at this world event; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate David Gannon and Skater on their outstanding showing at the 2005 International Crufts Obedience World Cup and extend to them both sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Gannon as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
