H.R. No. 2079
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Corpus Christi Regional Transportation
Authority (the "RTA") was organized pursuant to legislation adopted
by the 68th Legislature and confirmed by almost a two-thirds vote of
the electorate in Corpus Christi on August 10, 1985; and
WHEREAS, The RTA expanded a public transit system that
principally served only the central city area of Corpus Christi
into a regional transportation system that serves not only Corpus
Christi but all of Nueces County and seven area communities--840
square miles of service area; and
WHEREAS, The RTA operates a unique mix of transportation
systems with over 120 different vehicles, including traditional
fixed route service, paratransit service, downtown trolleys, a
harbor ferry, van pools, a tourist tram, and special event
park-and-ride services; and
WHEREAS, The RTA has constructed five major transfer stations
in the community and has completed five different Livable
Communities Initiative (LCI) projects with the U.S. Federal Transit
Administration, improving the appearance of neighborhoods and
enhancing mobility options for the public; and
WHEREAS, The RTA has been proactive in providing
transportation services for individuals with disabilities through
its B-Line service, its accessible fixed route service, and a broad
range of mobility improvements in the streets and sidewalks of the
RTA's service area; and
WHEREAS, The RTA has developed innovative partnerships with
private businesses, nonprofit groups, and public organizations,
such as the City of Corpus Christi, Del Mar College, Texas A&M
University--Corpus Christi, and rural transit districts in the area
that have improved transportation services for area residents and
reduced expenses for the participating entities; and
WHEREAS, The RTA has transported passengers on more than 90
million passenger trips during its history of almost 20 years in
serving the communities of the Corpus Christi region; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th
Legislature of the State of Texas hereby commend the Corpus Christi
Regional Transportation Authority as it prepares to celebrate its
20th anniversary on August 10, 2005, for its continued efforts in
providing mobility to the public in the Corpus Christi region and
enhancing the livability and economic vitality of the communities
it serves in South Texas; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That congratulations be extended to the current and
former members of the board of directors of the RTA over the past 20
years and for the dedication of more than 300 regular and contract
employees of the RTA who have worked together to make the RTA
successful in its mission of serving the public through providing
quality transportation service; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the Corpus Christi Regional Transportation Authority
as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of
Representatives.
