H.R. No. 2084
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Fortissimo flag team of Americas High School in
El Paso placed seventh at the Winter Guard International World
Championships, which took place April 7-9, 2005, in Dayton, Ohio;
and
WHEREAS, Winter guard sports foster positive experiences for
all those who participate by promoting education, creativity, and
freedom of expression through the unification of pageantry and the
performing arts; and
WHEREAS, The three-day championship event showcases more
than 300 guards and 150 percussion ensembles from over 40 states and
five countries; students prepare for this event by competing in a
WGI regional contest; taking first place at the West Texas Regional
event for the past eight years and competing as finalists in the
international competition for the past four years, the Americas
team was the only winter guard from Texas participating in the world
championship; and
WHEREAS, Led by director Cecil Crabtree with the assistance
of Amanda Vega, Karen Garcia, Kendra Vasquez, and Keila Garcia, the
team performed to the show, "Attraction/Atraccion," accompanied by
Spanish guitar music; and
WHEREAS, The members of this outstanding team are: Sharon
Underdahl, Valerie Estrada, Adriana Galindez, Kayla Vasquez,
Lindsey Kelch, Jennifer Rea, Crystal Rodriguez, Jessica Neels,
Tanya Loya, Amanda Lujan, Rebecca Ruiz, Brenda Barraza, Celeste
Jacquez, Yolanda Underdahl, Enid Martinez, Danika Moreno, Felicia
Vega, and John Paul Batista; and
WHEREAS, These young performers have demonstrated
exceptional talent and an unwavering commitment to excellence in
building their impressive program, and their achievement should
bring them many happy memories for years to come; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the Americas High School
Fortissimo flag team for winning seventh place at the 2005 Winter
Guard International World Championships and extend to the members
of the team and the staff sincere best wishes for continued success;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
