R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The peace officers who routinely put themselves in harm's way to safeguard the lives and property of their fellow citizens are truly deserving of every Texan's admiration and gratitude, and the professional organizations that represent these exemplary public servants are likewise great assets to the community; and WHEREAS, The El Paso County Sheriff's Officers Association is one such group which seeks to promote benevolent and fraternal activities among its membership; moreover, its objectives include the promotion of communication between its members, the improvement of working conditions and benefits, and maintaining allegiance to the laws of this state and nation; and WHEREAS, Founded in 1978, the group was originally composed of sheriff's deputies but eventually grew to include detention officers, and now boasts more than 770 men and women who serve in these notable professions; and WHEREAS, The association also seeks to contribute to the greater good through its many charitable works, and its association with such worthwhile organizations as the Crime Victims Counsel, the Advocacy Center for the Children of El Paso, the El Paso Cancer Research Center, Hospice of El Paso, and the March of Dimes has greatly benefited area residents; and WHEREAS, By combining their own professional goals with a larger vision that encompasses the entire community, the members of the association offer an inspiring example of dedication to bettering the lives of others; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor the El Paso County Sheriff's Officers Association and extend to its members sincere best wishes for continued success.
