R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The YMCA of the Greater Houston Area is a non-profit organization that serves approximately 400,000 people each year; and WHEREAS, Located in the southwestern part of the city, the Alief Family YMCA has been responding to the changing needs of the community since its charter in 1978; the site's major programs include child care, youth sports, teens, aquatics, and day camp, and last year, it served more than 700 school-aged children in child care and 100 young people in sports; these programs are designed to develop child-parent relationships, leadership skills, mental and physical fitness, self-worth, and character through five core values; and WHEREAS, Those core values include respect, responsibility, honesty, caring, and faith, all central tenets of the organization's philosophy of nurturing growth in spirit, mind, and body; and WHEREAS, Each year, the staff members and volunteers of the Houston YMCA join efforts to raise funds for scholarships; this annual Partners Campaign seeks to improve the organization's programs, to build support within the community, and to communicate the association's values to city residents; and WHEREAS, With its commitment to community and personal development, the Alief Family YMCA is truly worthy of special recognition, and it is a pleasure to honor those who work in behalf of the fulfillment of all Texans; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby commend the Alief Family YMCA for its many contributions to the Houston community and extend to those involved with the organization's fund-raising efforts sincere best wishes for a successful 2005 Partners Campaign; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the staff and volunteers of the Alief Family YMCA as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
