H.R. No. 2111


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, With the untimely passing of John Wayne Gregory on May 12, 2005, at the age of 60, the Baytown community lost a valued resident and dear friend; and WHEREAS, Born on March 16, 1945, in Roanoke, Virginia, "Big John" was a two-time All-American defensive tackle who went on to play on two national championship football teams at Kilgore Junior College, where he met his future bride, Judy; and WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Gregory were joined in matrimony in 1966; they transferred to Wichita State University in Kansas, where he received his bachelor's degree, and moved to Baytown in 1971; after a 17-year career with U.S. Steel, this esteemed gentleman went to work for Ethyl Corporation/M.E.M.C. in Pasadena; and WHEREAS, A member of Cedar Bayou United Methodist Church, Mr. Gregory was an accomplished handyman who loved woodworking and also enjoyed the time he spent in keeping up his impeccably manicured yard; and WHEREAS, The love and friendship that "Big John" Gregory shared with his family and friends was truly a blessing in their lives, and the memory of this gentle giant will long be carried in their hearts; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of John Wayne Gregory and extend deep sympathy to the members of his family: to his wife, Judy Gregory; to his children, Lisa and Steve Sherron, Lauren Gregory, and Ryan Gregory; to his grandchild, Mackenzie Sherron; to his brothers, Bob and Jack Gregory; to his brother-in-law, Marvin Girouard, and his wife, Felice; and to all who mourn the passing of this beloved man; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representative adjourns this day, it do so in memory of John Wayne Gregory.
