R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Those Texans who give of themselves to make their
community a better place are truly deserving of our admiration and
gratitude, and Raymundo S. Perez of Hidalgo County is one such
individual; and
WHEREAS, Born July 24, 1931, Mr. Perez was employed as an
agricultural worker from an early age, and he brought his
characteristic diligence and dedication to his employment until his
well-deserved retirement in 1989; and
WHEREAS, A gifted musician, Mr. Perez has entertained
countless appreciative audiences over the years with his singing
and guitar playing, and among those who delighted in his
performances were President Lyndon B. Johnson and Texas governors
John Connally and Dolph Briscoe; and
WHEREAS, It was through his musical activities that Mr. Perez
first became involved in politics, and for more than half a century,
he has been a committed advocate for candidates and causes in which
he believes, offering wise advice to public servants and
encouraging young people to participate in the electoral process;
and
WHEREAS, In all his endeavors, Mr. Perez has drawn strength
and inspiration from his family, including his wife of 54 years,
Felipa G. Perez; their sons, Fred, Bobby, Ronny, and Ray Perez, Jr.;
their daughter, Nora; and their 12 grandchildren and three
great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Through his steadfast example of political activism
and civic engagement, Raymundo Perez has distinguished himself as a
man of service to all, while prompting countless people to become
involved in their communities and make a difference in the lives of
others; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby honor Raymundo S. Perez for his community
service in the Rio Grande Valley and extend to him sincere best
wishes for continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Perez as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
