R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Jay O. Oji has been selected as a recipient of the
Outstanding Texan Award in the area of business by the Texas
Legislative Black Caucus; and
WHEREAS, Outstanding Texans are honored for the positive
impact they make in their communities, and Mr. Oji merits this
accolade for his exceptional dedication to providing housing for
low- and moderate-income families; and
WHEREAS, Since 1998, Mr. Oji has served as president and CEO
of the Dallas-based Sphinx Development Corporation, a nonprofit
company that focuses on the development of affordable housing;
through new construction and rehabilitation, the firm has completed
hundreds of affordable units in projects located both in the inner
city and in the suburbs; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Oji has extensive experience in real estate
research, valuation, market feasibility analysis, and highest and
best use analysis of residential and commercial properties;
previous achievements include assembling a 46-acre parcel for
Farmers Market, a residential/commercial development, and
assembling a 72-acre parcel for Texas Plaza, a project intended for
high-tech office, hospitality, and commercial use; and
WHEREAS, Educated at The University of Texas at Arlington,
Southern Methodist University, and Abilene Christian University at
Dallas, Mr. Oji holds a B.B.A. in real estate and finance and an
M.B.A. in management systems; he has also completed a number of
courses offered by the Appraisal Institute; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed Texan is a designated member of the
Appraisal Institute, a member of the Urban Land Institute, and a
candidate for designation as a Certified Commercial Investment
Member; in addition, he serves on the Texas Low Income Housing Tax
Credit Advisory Committee; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Oji is the devoted husband of Estelle and the
proud father of twins, Arinze and Amara; and
WHEREAS, Jay Oji has had a profound effect on the lives of
countless residents of the Lone Star State, and it is a pleasure to
recognize him at this time; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby commend Jay O. Oji on being named a recipient of
the Outstanding Texan Award in the area of business by the Texas
Legislative Black Caucus and extend to him sincere best wishes for
continued success; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. Oji as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
