H.R. No. 2117


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Two students from Alief won first place in the welding projects category at the SkillsUSA competition in Fort Worth, and these fine young men are most deserving of special recognition for this significant accomplishment; and WHEREAS, Danny Vu and Sam Lutz, students at Hastings and Elsik High Schools, designed and constructed an engine stand that was selected as the outstanding project among some 50 team entries; and WHEREAS, Under the tutelage of Lloyd Williams, welding instructor at Elsik High School, this talented twosome built the project from scratch and were judged on its usefulness, degree of difficulty, and quality of work; also taken into account were project documentation and overall presentation; and WHEREAS, Mr. Lutz is planning to begin his studies in mechanical engineering this fall at Texas A&M University on a full ROTC scholarship; Mr. Vu will return to Hastings for his senior year before making his final decision regarding higher education; and WHEREAS, Through their impressive success, these outstanding students have earned widespread respect and admiration, and they may take great pride in this first-place award for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Danny Vu and Sam Lutz for winning first place at the SkillsUSA competition and commend Lloyd Williams for his contributions to the duo's success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That official copies of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Vu, Mr. Lutz, and Mr. Williams as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
