R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Memorial High School Dance Team of Victoria,
known as the "Pride of the Southwest," has won the American Dance
Drill Team International Competition in Denton, earning the title
of National Super Team Overall Champion for 2005; and
WHEREAS, These hardworking young women are also the 2005
national champions of the Crowd Pleasers National Competition in
Galveston; and
WHEREAS, The squad's recent success includes the receipt of
numerous individual and team divisional awards, including the
Southern Exposure Outstanding Team Award and the Gussie Nell Davis
Award of Excellence; and
WHEREAS, Along with meeting the demands of school and team
practice, these students are dedicated to the needs of the
community and have participated in numerous civic service programs
and projects, including the American Cancer Society Relay for Life,
food drives for Christ's Kitchen, and Cinderella's Closet, a
project that provides prom dresses to girls in need; each year, they
also display their community spirit by taking part in the Veterans'
Day and Christmas Parades; and
WHEREAS, These young Texans have demonstrated impressive
talent and commitment to achieving their goals, and they are a
source of tremendous pride to their school and their community;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the Memorial High
School Dance Team, director D. J. Jaynes, and assistant Cheryl
Sedlacek for their outstanding season and extend to them sincere
best wishes for continued success and achievement; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
