R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Matthew S. Murphy has greatly contributed to the quality of life in his Northwest Dallas neighborhood, and his efforts are truly admirable; and WHEREAS, Mr. Murphy has served with distinction as chairman of Dallas Crime Watch 3050 since 2002; graciously lending his time and talents to make his community a safer place, he has established vital relationships with local leaders and other groups over the course of his tenure and increased weekly attendance more than tenfold; and WHEREAS, His exceptional leadership and dedication were demonstrated when tragedy struck his neighborhood; after two drag-racing teenagers seriously injured motorist Victor Alaniz, Mr. Murphy immediately organized an emergency community meeting; and WHEREAS, Residents came together, creating an emergency fund for the uninsured Mr. Alaniz, who had no feeling in the lower half of his body as a result of the accident, and developing solutions to present to local and state officials regarding speed-related accidents and street racing; and WHEREAS, Moreover, Mr. Murphy worked with city councilman Steve Salazar to establish a larger police presence in the area and, with the assistance of State Representative Rafael Anchia, found rehabilitation for Mr. Alaniz; since that time, incidents of dangerous speeding and street racing have been significantly reduced and Mr. Alaniz has begun to walk again; and WHEREAS, His unyielding commitment to his fellow residents led to Mr. Murphy's appointment to the Northwest/Bachman Lake business committee, where he has continued his incomparable service to the area; and WHEREAS, Through his tireless work in making his North Texas community a better place in which to live, work, and raise a family, Matthew Murphy has justly earned the respect and admiration of all who are privileged to know him, and he is indeed worthy of special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor Matthew S. Murphy for his efforts in behalf of his Northwest Dallas neighborhood and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Murphy as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
