R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Julio Cesar Dovalina of Del Rio has received the prestigious Presidential Award, the highest award bestowed to a student at St. Edward's University; and WHEREAS, The SEU Presidential Award is given to qualified seniors and graduate students who have excelled in leadership, academic performance, and service to the university and other communities, as recognized by the faculty, staff, and student body; and WHEREAS, Graduating with a dual degree in computer information technology and accounting in May 2005, Mr. Dovalina has previously received a National Science Foundation Hilltopper Mathematics and Computer Science Scholarship, an SEU Service Scholarship, and several outside scholarships; and WHEREAS, He has completed internships with the U.S. Department of the Treasury in Washington, D.C., through the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities and with the SEU Instructional Technology Department; a CANDAX-ME McNair Scholar, he conducted a research internship at the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Notre Dame; he also participated in a cultural exchange program with the Universidad Autonoma Benito Juarez de Oaxaca; and WHEREAS, In addition to pursuing his academic studies and internships, this outstanding young Texan found time to engage in a number of extracurricular activities as an SEU undergraduate; he served the Hispanic Student Association as a student ambassador, head ambassador, and special events coordinator and participated in the Student Leadership Training Program and the Criminal Justice Community; moreover, he worked while attending SEU, finding employment with the IT Department as a lab assistant and an instructional computing designer and programmer; and WHEREAS, A source of tremendous pride to his family, this first generation college student has demonstrated outstanding initiative and ability throughout his career at St. Edward's and his accomplishments have ensured him a future that is truly bright with promise; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Julio Cesar Dovalina on his receipt of the St. Edward's University Presidential Award and extend to him sincere best wishes for success in all his endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Dovalina as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
