R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Sergeant Ira Herrero of Corpus Christi has rendered valiant service in the armed forces of this country; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Herrero enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in September 1990; trained as an electrical mechanical technician, he assisted in the deactivation of the intercontinental ballistic missile system at Ellsworth Air Force Base; and WHEREAS, During his three years of active duty in the air force, Sergeant Herrero received the Air Force Commendation Medal, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and National Defense Service Medal; after leaving active duty, he served for six years in the inactive ready reserve; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Herrero enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve in June 2000, and in December 2002 he was called to active duty; the following February, he deployed to Camp Arifjan, Kuwait, where he assisted in providing base security as a member of the quick reaction force and supported the base's mission to provide supplies to combat troops; and WHEREAS, In April 2003, Sergeant Herrero volunteered for an assignment in Iraq that involved taking custody of all equipment other than ammunition that was captured south of Baghdad; during this time he drove several supply missions, logging more than 2,400 miles; he also acted as both motor sergeant and assistant squad leader for his detachment, which was stationed at LSA Adder on Tallil Air Base; and WHEREAS, Following his assignment in Iraq, Sergeant Herrero returned to his temporary duty station in Kuwait; this time he helped to provide force protection at the Kuwait Naval Base, where his unit, the 887th Quartermaster Company, U.S. Army Reserve, was in charge of base security; and WHEREAS, Sergeant Herrero and his unit returned to their permanent duty station in Sinton, Texas, after completing a year of active duty in a combat zone; for his efforts in support of the war in Iraq, Sergeant Herrero received two promotions in rank and the Army Commendation Medal, a second National Defense Service Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Armed Forces Reserve Medal with Mobilization Device, and three certificates of achievement; and WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Sergeant Herrero is married to Aracelie Herrero, and they are the proud parents of three daughters, Sabrina, age eight, Isabella, age seven, and Indira, age five; and WHEREAS, Through his unwavering dedication to duty, honor, and this country, Sergeant Ira Herrero has exemplified the highest ideals of the United States armed forces, and his selfless efforts in this nation's behalf are deserving of his fellow citizens' deepest respect and gratitude; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor Sergeant Ira Herrero for his steadfast courage, commitment, and patriotism and extend to him profound appreciation for his exemplary service to this country; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Sergeant Herrero as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
