H.R. No. 2166
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, On May 4, 2005, Earl King celebrated his 74th
birthday, and this notable event provides a fitting opportunity to
reflect on the achievements of a truly remarkable man and to pay
tribute to him for his service in behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, Born in a one-room cook shack in Hydro, Oklahoma, in
1931, Mr. King was the middle child of his parents' 11 children; he
left home at age 12 to work on farms to earn room, board, and
clothes; and
WHEREAS, At the age of 17, after completing the 10th grade, he
joined the U.S. Navy; he continued his education by correspondence
through the Armed Forces Institute and by attending the U.S. Naval
Academy Preparatory School, the U.S. Naval Academy at Annapolis,
OSU graduate school, and The University of Texas Law School; and
WHEREAS, Designated the Distinguished Military Graduate of
his college class, he was commissioned as a U.S. Air Force officer
and received his wings as an air force pilot, serving for three
years as a first lieutenant; he concluded his military career to
study law and received a doctor of jurisprudence degree in 1960; and
WHEREAS, This civic, business, and religious leader has been
a resident of Weatherford for the past 21 years; he has served his
fellow citizens as a city council member and mayor pro tem, a member
of the Weatherford Utility Board, and an associate judge; he has
also been an officer and director of the East Fort Worth Optimist
Club, vice chair of the Parker County Citizens for Public Decency,
chair of the Parker County Crime Commission, and a member of the
board of the Parker County Citizens for Responsible Government; and
WHEREAS, The founder of the law firm King & King, PC, he has
served as CEO of the Institutional Investment Company of America,
Fort Worth Petroleum Corporation, Lawyers Trust Company, Western
Mining and Milling Company, KingLandCo, Inc., and King Investments,
Ltd.; he has also served as board chair for the Military Parts and
Supply Company and as a director for a number of area banks; and
WHEREAS, In 2000, Mr. King founded the Parker County
Christian Men's Fellowship and today serves the organization as a
director and officer; on his birthday in 2005, the group recognized
his leadership with a special celebration in his honor; and
WHEREAS, Also a deacon, Master Life Disciple training leader,
and Sunday school teacher for North Side Baptist Church, Mr. King is
chair of the Parker County Christian Life Commission and a board
member and officer of the Southwestern Theological Seminary
Advisory Council; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his exemplary service to his
community and church, this devoted family man has always been a
source of love and support to his wife, Barbara, and his five
children and 14 grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Through the years, Earl King has demonstrated his
dedication to the welfare of others in countless ways, and in so
doing, he has earned the lasting respect and affection of his
family, friends, and colleagues; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Earl King on his 74th birthday,
commend him for his community service, and extend to him sincere
best wishes for continued happiness; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Mr. King as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
