R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Family and friends deeply mourn the passing of the
Reverend Cecil Eugene McNealy, Jr., of Dallas, on May 22, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Born on July 2, 1936, in Bonham, Dr. McNealy
graduated from Booker T. Washington High School and fulfilled his
patriotic duty as a member of the United States Army Airborne
Division; he earned a bachelor's degree in biblical studies from
Aspen Christian College and a master's degree in religious
education and a doctoral degree in urban ministries from Aspen
Theological Seminary; he also received an honorary doctorate of
laws from Union Baptist Theological Seminary; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed clergyman was called in 1969 to serve
as pastor of Greater El Bethel Baptist Church of Dallas, where he
preached with a strong spirit and deep faith for more than 35 years;
an eloquent and moving speaker, he was known throughout the nation
for his oratory; and
WHEREAS, Dr. McNealy also contributed his expertise as a
board member and regional director of Aspen Christian College and
Theological Seminary, a board member of the D. Edwin Johnson
Baptist Institute of Dallas, and a faculty member of the National
Baptist Congress of Christian Education/National Baptist
Convention, USA, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, At the time of his death, he was president emeritus
of the Baptist Minister's Conference of Dallas and Vicinity, first
vice moderator for the Galilee Griggs Memorial District Association
of Baptist Churches, and area director of Aspen Christian College
and Theological Seminary; and
WHEREAS, Cecil McNealy's fairness, devotion, and leadership
will long be remembered by all those who were touched by his
generosity toward his congregation and community; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Cecil Eugene McNealy,
Jr., and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to
the mother of his children, Ellen Brown McNealy and her father,
Elmore Brown; to his children, the Reverend William McNealy and his
wife, Marcia, Bobbie Barr and her husband, James, Marqurette Morris
and her husband, Timothy, Cheryl Williams, Nira McNealy, Nico
Hodge, and Bridgett McNealy; to his grandchildren, Slavoski
Wright I, Amber Graves, Brianna Williams, Cecil McNealy, Taelor
McNealy, Jordon Dempsey, Lacy Morris, and Daryl McNealy-Evans; to
his great-grandchildren, Slavoski Wright II, Hannah Wright, and
Madison Graves; to his brothers, the Reverend T. R. McNealy, Sr.,
and his wife, Evelyn, the Reverend Jeff McNealy and his wife, Lida,
the Reverend Joe McNealy, Sr., and his wife, Gretchen, the Reverend
Charles McNealy and his wife, Marian, and the Reverend Timothy
McNealy, Sr.; to his sisters, Ruth Ann Tucker and Mildred Martin;
and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of the
Reverend Cecil Eugene McNealy, Jr.
