R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Derrell Dean Mayo of Van Zandt County answered his calling to join the ministry while still a teenager, and he has continued to serve God and his community with great selflessness and compassion throughout these many years; and WHEREAS, Mr. Mayo preached his first sermon at Galena Church, which was founded in the early 1900s by his great-grandparents, Jeff and Minnie Smith; over the course of his career, he has touched the lives of countless individuals with his moving orations at marriage ceremonies, church services, baptisms, and memorials; and WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman has joyfully embraced his role in providing spiritual direction, hope, and comfort to members of his community, who admire him in return for his strong faith and steadfast commitment to helping others; and WHEREAS, Though it is impossible to gauge the full effect of a man's life, some individuals leave their unmistakable mark on the world as they move through it, and Derrell Mayo's contributions in behalf of his fellow Texans continue to resonate in the lives of all who know him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor Derrell Dean Mayo for his longstanding service as a minister and friend to his community; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Mayo as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
