R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Mary Alice Sims of Lamesa is retiring in May 2005
after 38 years as an educator, and this occasion offers a fitting
opportunity to reflect on her outstanding career; and
WHEREAS, For the past 25 years, Ms. Sims has been affiliated
with the Lamesa Independent School District, having taught at the
former V. Z. Rogers Elementary--now the campus for Lamesa Head
Start--and North Elementary School; before returning to Texas to
care for her parents, she was employed as an eighth-grade teacher in
Missouri for 13 years; and
WHEREAS, She is an active member of the Delta Kappa Gamma
teachers group and plans to join the Dawson County Retired Teachers
Association; she will also continue her long affiliation with St.
John's Baptist Church and maintain her involvement with the
Blackshear reunion; and
WHEREAS, In her retirement, Ms. Sims looks forward to
pursuing her favorite hobbies, including antiquing, and is
considering the possibility of traveling to some of the places that
she has discussed in class but never visited; she also plans to
maintain her relationships with her students and fellow teachers by
serving as a substitute teacher; and
WHEREAS, Devoting one's life to educating America's young
people is a noble and worthy pursuit, and Mary Alice Sims has had a
positive impact on the lives of countless children and their
families during her lengthy and exceptional career as an educator;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate Mary Alice Sims on the occasion of
her retirement from teaching and commend her for her exemplary
tenure with the Lamesa Independent School District; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for Ms. Sims as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
