R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, For the second straight year, the Lindale High
School academic team has won the UIL Class 3A State Academic
Championship, capturing this year's title by a remarkable 49
points; and
WHEREAS, The State Academic Championship goes to the school
in each conference that earns the highest total points for all
academic events, including the state cross-examination debate, the
state one-act play, and the multievent state academic meet; and
WHEREAS, Lindale High School's academic team performed
superbly in several categories, scoring points in computer science,
editorial writing, feature writing, and informative speaking,
among others; and
WHEREAS, Notably, the school's debate squad proved so strong
that two of the school's teams were pitted against one another in
the final round, ensuring first and second place for these highly
skilled deliberators; and
WHEREAS, Members of the academic team include Candice King,
Nicole Yeakley, Brittany Allen, Xiaoyun Wang, Brandon Buck, Wade
Barker, Rory McKenzie, J. J. Wulff, Jacob Hopson, and Kye Harris,
each of whom made a valuable contribution to the team's overall
success; and
WHEREAS, These exceptional students received guidance and
support from Janice Caldwell, their teacher and coach, who provided
tutoring in the different disciplines and challenged each of the
teens to reach for the stars; and
WHEREAS, Members of the Lindale High School academic team may
be justifiably proud of their significant achievement, and the
memory of this state academic championship will undoubtedly serve
as inspiration for years to come; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby congratulate the members of the Lindale High
School academic team and coach Janice Caldwell on winning the 2005
UIL State Academic Championship and extend best wishes to them for
continued success in all their endeavors; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for the team as an expression of high regard by the Texas
House of Representatives.
