R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, The Honorable Nelson William Wolff has rendered exceptional service to the people of Bexar County and the State of Texas; and WHEREAS, Over the course of more than three decades, Judge Wolff has held a number of distinguished offices; he served in the Texas House of Representatives from 1971 to 1973 and the Texas Senate from 1973 to 1975, held a seat on the San Antonio City Council from 1987 to 1991, and led San Antonio as mayor from 1991 to 1995; and WHEREAS, In his capacity as mayor, he oversaw efforts to determine a location for the downtown campus of The University of Texas at San Antonio, as well as to build a city baseball stadium, which has since been named in his honor, and to construct the downtown library and the new city council chambers; he also led a campaign to support city parks and secured financing for renovation that doubled the size of the Convention Center; and WHEREAS, Presently Bexar County judge, he was appointed to that office in 2001 and elected to the position in November 2002; since assuming leadership of the commissioners court, he has worked tirelessly to advance city-county cooperation, a goal that received formal endorsement by the commissioners court in 2002; and WHEREAS, During his tenure as county judge, he has played an instrumental role in successful collaborative efforts to bring a Toyota Motor Manufacturing plant and PGA Village to Bexar County and to address regional challenges by creating the Metropolitan Partnership for Energy, the San Antonio Mobility Coalition, and the Health Care Summit and Commission; and WHEREAS, Judge Wolff has also worked with the mayor of San Antonio to promote the development of a Bexar County/San Antonio history center, and together with his wife, Tracy, he is leading efforts to restore the Bexar County Courthouse; and WHEREAS, This accomplished Texan has given generously of his time and talents through his service on the boards of numerous public and private entities, among them the Free Trade Alliance, St. Mary's University, the San Antonio Medical Foundation, and the Southwest Research Institute; and WHEREAS, At every stage of his career, Judge Wolff has exemplified the highest standards of public service, and his immeasurable contributions to Bexar County and the Lone Star State indeed merit special recognition; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby commend the Honorable Nelson William Wolff for his remarkable efforts in behalf of his fellow Texans; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Judge Wolff as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
