H.R. No. 2215
R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Citizens of Ben Wheeler lost two of the town's most
beloved residents within the span of a year with the death of Pastor
Howard Borgeson on April 5, 2004, and the passing of his wife,
Edith, on March 26, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Truly brought together by their faith, Mr. and Mrs.
Borgeson met at the Dallas Theological Seminary and were married on
December 15, 1943; they nurtured a strong bond of love and mutual
respect for more than 60 years, and were blessed with two children;
moreover, the couple shared in the joy of welcoming six
grandchildren and two great-grandchildren into their cherished
family; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Borgeson, born on December 25, 1921, was
instrumental in building the Austin Grace Church and parsonage in
Austin, which he led for 12 years; after moving to Kansas City, he
helped to establish St. Paul's Church of the Nazarene in Raytown,
Missouri, where he was pastor for 23 years; having relocated to Ben
Wheeler 19 years ago, the couple belonged to the Lakeview Church of
the Nazarene in Tyler, and Mr. Borgeson sang in the choir and filled
in to preach in any church where the need arose; and
WHEREAS, Born on April 18, 1921, Mrs. Borgeson was a devoted
wife and caring homemaker who possessed a great love for people;
while in Kansas, she served as a substitute teacher, and she
remained a constant source of support and strength throughout her
husband's ministry; and
WHEREAS, The certain knowledge of a life well lived may
temper the profound sadness that the passing of Mr. and Mrs.
Borgeson brings to all who loved them; these two exceptional
individuals devoted their lives to serving the needs of their
fellow citizens, and their spirits will continue to live through
the legacy of good works they have left behind; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby pay tribute to the lives of Howard and Edith
Borgeson and extend sincere sympathy to the members of their
family: to their children, Dr. Jim Borgeson and Susan Fuller; to
their six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and to their
other relatives and friends; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
prepared for their family and that when the Texas House of
Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Howard and
Edith Borgeson.
