R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Longtime Austinite Gustav Bradley Bourland passed away on May 24, 2005, at the age of 85, and his loss has left a void in the lives of those who knew and loved this esteemed gentleman; and WHEREAS, Born in Rocksprings on October 21, 1919, Mr. Bourland lost his father at a young age and moved to Fort Worth, where he grew up and attended school at the Masonic Home; and WHEREAS, After graduating as valedictorian, he attended The University of Texas at Austin and earned degrees in business and law; during his college career, he was student-body president in 1947-1948 and received the Mike Flynn Good Citizenship Award; and WHEREAS, He served his country during World War II and was stationed with the Medical Supply Corps in Trinidad before enrolling in Officer Candidate School in Pennsylvania; he later served in the National Guard, rising to the rank of colonel; and WHEREAS, A former assistant attorney general of Texas, Mr. Bourland was also securities commissioner of Texas before starting a successful private law practice; and WHEREAS, Mr. Bourland maintained a lifelong affiliation with the Masons and was always quick to credit that organization for his success; he was a past worshipful master of University Lodge No. 1190 and was named lodge secretary in January of 1997; during his distinguished tenure he received numerous awards, including the Golden Trowel, the Sam Houston Gavel, and the Fifty Year Service Award; and WHEREAS, G. Bradley Bourland was a man of strong character and generosity of spirit, and although he is deeply missed by family and friends, his memory and legacy of achievement will remain in their hearts for years to come; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of G. Bradley Bourland and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his son, David Bourland; to his former wife, Anita Faubion, and her sons, Pat and Mike Faubion; to his brother, Bill Draper Bourland; and to the many other relatives and friends of this beloved man; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of G. Bradley Bourland.
