R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, During the 79th Legislative Session, Luis Martinez has ably served his fellow Texans as an intern in the office of State Representative Roberto Alonzo; and WHEREAS, This exceptional young man was selected to participate in the 2005 Moreno/Rangel Legislative Leadership Program, which is sponsored by the Mexican American Legislative Leadership Foundation and offers outstanding Latino and Latina undergraduate and graduate students from across Texas the opportunity to learn about the legislative process firsthand; and WHEREAS, Born in Mexico, Mr. Martinez arrived in the United States with his family at the age of 12; he spoke no English but persevered through linguistic and cultural challenges to graduate with the highest GPA from his senior class at Sunset High School in Oak Cliff; today, he is a distinguished graduate of Southern Methodist University, where he pursued two demanding majors, finance and economics, while working full-time; and WHEREAS, Dedicated to the needs of his community, Mr. Martinez is a member of St. Mary of Carmel Youth Group, and he has given generously of his time to tutor elementary school students and participate in local charitable endeavors; in contemplating his future, he has decided to pursue the field of law in order to confront and work to eliminate the many societal injustices facing minorities; and WHEREAS, Over the course of his internship, Mr. Martinez has been of great assistance to Representative Alonzo's office; in addition to enhancing his knowledge of the legislative process and the issues facing citizens of the Lone Star State, he has gained valuable work experience in the field of public service; and WHEREAS, Mr. Martinez has performed his duties as a legislative intern with skill, perseverance, and dedication, and he may indeed look forward to a meaningful and rewarding future; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor Luis Martinez for his exemplary service as a legislative intern in the office of State Representative Roberto Alonzo and extend to him sincere best wishes in all his endeavors; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Mr. Martinez as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
