R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A loving family and good friends celebrate the life of Jewel Hawthorne Winder of Caro, who departed this earth on May 23, 2005, at the age of 98; and WHEREAS, Over the course of her rich and rewarding life, Mrs. Winder experienced many singular events, including traveling across Texas with her family in a covered wagon, picking cotton from farm to farm; she adored the beauty of the Lone Star State, and especially her hometown in Caro, where she and her beloved husband, Press Winder, built a life together; and WHEREAS, Mrs. Winder placed a high priority on family, and she raised five children with tenderness, insight, and wisdom; a talented seamstress, she was employed with Mize Factory for many years and later did alterations for Mize Department Store, retiring at the age of 89; and WHEREAS, This devoted matriarch continued to impress others with her tenacity and verve, and she enjoyed growing flowers, playing dominos, and reading the morning paper; adored in her community, she was a faithful congregant of Mahl Baptist Church and a valued friend to many; and WHEREAS, Those who were privileged to know Jewel Winder were inspired by her kindness and her ability to reach out to others, and she will long be remembered in the hearts of the many people whose lives she touched; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby honor Jewel Hawthorne Winder and extend deepest sympathy to her family: to her children, Mavis Clifton, Bob Winder and his wife, Myra, Rho Winder and his wife, Jausell, John Winder and his wife, Linda, and Sue Sanders; to her grandchildren, Mark Clifton, Teri Dyer and her husband, Johnny, Monique Harrison, Steve Winder, Gwen Ellis, Missy Hardy, Doug Sanders, and David Winder and his wife, Renee; to her great-grandchildren, Clint, Christopher, Casey, and Chad Clifton, Misti Creamer and her husband, Josh, Wesley Dyer, Ashli Norris and her husband, Jeff, Adrianne Murphy and her husband, Gary Don, Beth Baker and her husband, Cody, Nicholas Winder, Cassie Ellis, Michael Ellis, Jordan Sanders, and Colton, Mason, and Haylee Hardy; to her great-great-grandson, Jake Creamer; to her brother, Sonny Hawthorne; to her sister, Dorothy Newman; and to her other relatives and many friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Jewel Hawthorne Winder.
