R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Proud members of the Garland High School Class of
1965 are gathering for their 40-year reunion during the weekend of
June 24-25, 2005; and
WHEREAS, The last senior class to graduate from Garland High
School before it was split into two smaller schools, the Class of '
65 was 751 members strong, and included among its achievements was
its contribution to the Garland Owls' back-to-back state football
championships in 1963 and 1964, which remains a point of pride for
the school even today; and
WHEREAS, The large size of the class and its geographic
dispersal over the years presented a daunting obstacle to a full
reunion, but spurred by the efforts of class member Steve Rhodes,
organizers succeeded in finding contact information for every class
member, and as a result the number of alumni, spouses, family
members, and teachers planning to attend far outstrips that of
similar events at other schools; and
WHEREAS, The combination of an informal Friday night
gathering and a Saturday night barbecue and dance is ideal for
ensuring that class members will have plenty of time to reconnect
and reminisce, as both tears and laughter refresh old friendships
and create new ones; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas
Legislature hereby commemorate the 40-year reunion of the Garland
High School Class of 1965 and extend to all its members sincere best
wishes for a successful reunion.
