R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Proud members of the Garland High School Class of 1965 are gathering for their 40-year reunion during the weekend of June 24-25, 2005; and WHEREAS, The last senior class to graduate from Garland High School before it was split into two smaller schools, the Class of ' 65 was 751 members strong, and included among its achievements was its contribution to the Garland Owls' back-to-back state football championships in 1963 and 1964, which remains a point of pride for the school even today; and WHEREAS, The large size of the class and its geographic dispersal over the years presented a daunting obstacle to a full reunion, but spurred by the efforts of class member Steve Rhodes, organizers succeeded in finding contact information for every class member, and as a result the number of alumni, spouses, family members, and teachers planning to attend far outstrips that of similar events at other schools; and WHEREAS, The combination of an informal Friday night gathering and a Saturday night barbecue and dance is ideal for ensuring that class members will have plenty of time to reconnect and reminisce, as both tears and laughter refresh old friendships and create new ones; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby commemorate the 40-year reunion of the Garland High School Class of 1965 and extend to all its members sincere best wishes for a successful reunion.
