R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, A prominent figure in the field of journalism in Houston for the past three decades, Ed Wendt, passed away on May 26, 2005, at the age of 55; and WHEREAS, Mr. Wendt was a journalist of passion and energy; endowed with unbridled enthusiasm for causes in which he believed, he consistently used his talents and intelligence to report on issues of great import to his fellow Texans; and WHEREAS, Through his coverage, this notable Texan fought for meaningful change in his community, never backing down from a challenge in his lifelong pursuit of social justice; he was a frequent presence at City Hall, while he also turned his considerable talent toward such vital issues as the First Amendment and civil rights; and WHEREAS, Though his strong convictions often placed him in an adversarial position during his lifetime, his talent as a journalist gained him acclaim in the Wall Street Journal as well as recognition by the Houston Press Club when he was named the 1998 Print Journalist of the Year; and WHEREAS, Ed Wendt informed and enlightened countless citizens throughout his career, and he leaves behind a personal legacy of strength, independence, and determination that will not soon be forgotten; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Ed Wendt and extend deepest sympathy to the members of his family: to his brother, Jack Robert Wendt; to his sister, Rebecca Demarais, and her husband, Rock; to his niece and nephew; and to his other relatives and friends; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for his family and that when the Texas House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of Ed Wendt.
