H.R. No. 2293


R E S O L U T I O N
WHEREAS, Parks and Wildlife Department game warden Anthony L. Norton of Athens has been named the 2005 Texas Boating Law Enforcement Officer of the Year; and WHEREAS, Awarded by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators, this prestigious honor recognizes dedicated men and women who have gone above and beyond their duties as marine patrol officers, and Officer Norton, who has served Region 3 in Henderson County with distinction for nearly eight years, is indeed one such deserving individual; and WHEREAS, Officer Norton currently holds a Master Peace Officer license and is certified with the Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education; an active boater, angler, and hunter education instructor, he has received extensive professional training and works to keep local law enforcement, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, and the public informed of vital safety information; and WHEREAS, Among his many achievements, Officer Norton has earned the Director's Citation Life Saving Award from the Parks and Wildlife Department; he helped to develop strategies to curtail boating accidents and has prepared and offered boating-while-intoxicated (BWI) awareness courses for local law enforcement and district game wardens; and WHEREAS, Officer Norton lends his time and talents to a number of worthy civic and professional organizations; currently serving on the board of directors of the Athens Masonic Lodge, the Texas Game Warden Association, and the Texas Peace Officers Association, he is also active with the Henderson County Soccer Association, the Teenage Baseball League, and the Malakoff Football Association; and WHEREAS, An immeasurable asset to his agency, Tony Norton is making important contributions to protecting the health and safety of residents and visitors to Henderson County, and he has earned the lasting respect of all who are privileged to work with him; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 79th Texas Legislature hereby congratulate Anthony L. Norton on being named the 2005 Texas Boating Law Enforcement Officer of the Year and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success; and, be it further RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be prepared for Officer Norton as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
