A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the amount of money available to certain disabled peace
officers from the compensation to victims of crime fund.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Article 56.542(k), Code of Criminal Procedure,
is amended to read as follows:
(k) The limits on compensation imposed by Article 56.42 do
not apply to payments made under this article, but the total
aggregate amount of all annual payments made to an individual peace
officer under this section may not exceed $250,000 [$200,000].
SECTION 2. The change in law made by this Act applies to an
application for compensation for criminally injurious conduct
occurring before, on, or after the effective date of this Act.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
