A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to the provision of employment services by the Texas Workforce Commission to the families of military personnel stationed in this state. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Subchapter A, Chapter 302, Labor Code, is amended by adding Section 302.0034 to read as follows: Sec. 302.0034. EMPLOYMENT ASSISTANCE PROGRAM FOR CERTAIN FAMILIES OF MILITARY PERSONNEL. (a) The commission shall provide employment assistance services, including job placement and other employment-related services, to the spouses and dependents of military personnel who are assigned to duty in this state. (b) The commission shall provide the services described by Subsection (a) in cooperation with the local workforce development boards in areas of the state having a defense community, as that term is defined by Section 481.501, Government Code. (c) The commission may accept and apply for gifts, grants, donations, and appropriations from public and private sources to fund the commission's duties under this section. The commission may use money from job training funds and other money appropriated by the legislature to implement the requirements of this section. SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
