A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to the authority of a member, agency, or committee of the 
legislature to receive on request one copy of public information 
from a governmental body without charge.
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Section 552.264, Government Code, is amended to 
read as follows: 
	Sec. 552.264.  COPY OF PUBLIC INFORMATION REQUESTED BY 
MEMBER OF LEGISLATURE.  One copy of public information that is 
requested from a governmental body [state agency] by a member, 
agency, or committee of the legislature under Section 552.008 shall 
be provided without charge.
	SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives 
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as 
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this 
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this 
Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
