A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to curriculum requirements for courses in which students
receive concurrent high school and college credit.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
SECTION 1. Subchapter B, Chapter 28, Education Code, is
amended by adding Section 28.0241 to read as follows:
Sec. 28.0241. CREDIT FOR ENROLLMENT IN CERTAIN COURSES.
(a) A school district may grant to a student credit toward the
academic course requirements for high school graduation for courses
the student successfully completes that are offered by an
institution of higher education for course credit toward a degree
offered by the institution.
(b) This section applies regardless of whether the course
offered by the institution of higher education conforms to the
essential knowledge and skills identified under Section 28.002 for
a substantially similar course.
SECTION 2. Section 28.0241, Education Code, as added by
this Act, applies beginning with courses completed during the
2005-2006 school year.
SECTION 3. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
