A BILL TO BE ENTITLED

AN ACT

relating to a toll-free number for reporting communicable diseases.           
	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:                        
	SECTION 1.  Section 81.041, Health and Safety Code, is 
amended by adding Subsection (g) to read as follows:
	(g)  The department shall establish and operate a statewide 
24-hour, toll-free telephone number for reporting communicable 
diseases.  Calls to the toll-free number established by the 
department under this subsection must be routed to the appropriate 
health authority for the jurisdiction in which the call originates.
	SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives 
a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as 
provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution.  If this 
Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this 
Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
