A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
relating to requirements for county election precincts. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS: SECTION 1. Section 42.006, Election Code, is amended by amending Subsection (a) and adding Subsection (f) to read as follows: (a) Except as otherwise provided by this section, a county election precinct must contain at least 100 but not more than 5,000 [2,000] registered voters. (f) In a county with a population of 175,000 or more, a county election precinct may not be drawn that requires a registered voter to drive more than 25 miles from the location at which the voter is registered to vote to the location of the precinct polling place. SECTION 2. Subsection (d), Section 42.006, Election Code, is repealed. SECTION 3. This Act takes effect September 1, 2005.
