CONCURRENT RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, The Legislature of the State of Texas is pleased to recognize the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum, which is hosting a major touring exhibit of international note, Capturing Western Legends: Russell and Remington's Canadian Frontier, from May 29 to August 21, 2005; and WHEREAS, Located on the campus of West Texas A&M University in Canyon, the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum is the largest history museum in Texas; a major cultural institution, it has one of the best art departments and some of the best permanent art collections in Texas; and WHEREAS, Organized by Western Canada's largest museum, the Glenbow Museum, this major exhibition brings together the works of Charles M. Russell and Frederic Remington; these two artists created iconic images that captured a moment in time and continue to define the Old West in the public imagination to this day; and WHEREAS, Exhibit visitors will explore the era of transition of the western frontier, when the Blackfoot people roamed the plains and the ranching industry straddled the border between Montana and Alberta, Canada; and WHEREAS, Many of the paintings in this exhibit are from private collections and have never been seen in a public exhibition; the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum is providing Texans an extraordinary cultural opportunity, as it will be the only institute west of the Mississippi River to host the exhibit; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the 79th Legislature of the State of Texas hereby commend the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum for hosting this major exhibit in Texas; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared for the museum as an expression of esteem from the Texas Legislature. Commending the Panhandle-Plains Historical Museum for hosting the art exhibit Capturing Western Legends: Russell and Remington's Canadian Frontier.
