SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 7
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to pay tribute to Charles Carroll Clark on the grand occasion of his 100th birthday; and WHEREAS, Charles Clark, a revered resident of San Antonio, was born January 19, 1905, in Austin; he graduated from Austin High School in 1921 and enrolled in The University of Texas; while a student, he served on the staff of the experimental licensed station 5XU and participated in the first remote play-by-play radio broadcast of a football game between the university and Texas A&M University; and WHEREAS, He left the university in 1922 to go to sea as a radio operator; he returned to the university in 1928, and in 1929, he married Marian Gray; he earned a bachelor of business administration degree with honors in 1931; and WHEREAS, After returning to sea and serving as a radio operator on the S.S. Oakwood, he took an accounting job with Sun Oil Company in Beaumont and retired in 1967 after 34 years of employment; and WHEREAS, Mr. Clark has enjoyed several hobbies throughout his life; an avid golf player, he played his last game at the age of 99 and was an active amateur ham radio operator until the age of 99 1/2; and WHEREAS, For his generosity and leadership in establishing endowed presidential scholarships in history, English, and business, Mr. Clark was honored by The University of Texas at Austin in 1997; and WHEREAS, Charles Clark has seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; he is noted for his courage, his compassion for others, and his enthusiasm for living each day to the fullest; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas, 79th Legislature, hereby recognize Charles Carroll Clark as a treasured citizen of our state; and, be it further RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for him as a memento of this special day.
