SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 24
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
pay tribute to Juanita Letha Hicks Lee, who is celebrating her
100th birthday on January 27, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Juanita was born in Kilgore; she was the seventh
of 10 children of John Henry Hicks and Carrie E. Kellum; she was
educated at West Point School in Kilgore; and
WHEREAS, In 1930, she moved to Dallas, where she worked for
Armour and Company and in the home of M. J. Brooks; and
WHEREAS, A revered member of her community, Juanita is
noted for her engaging personality and her courage and compassion
for others; and
WHEREAS, A devout Christian, Juanita has been a faithful
member of Mount Moriah Missionary Baptist Church since 1960;
members of the church are honoring Juanita with a 100th birthday
party in celebration of this milestone in her life; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby recognize Juanita Letha Hicks Lee
as a treasured citizen of our state and extend to her best wishes
on the occasion of her 100th birthday; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
