SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 42

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to 
recognize Reverend L. David Punch on the occasion of his second 
anniversary as pastor of Greater Zion Missionary Baptist Church 
in Houston; and
	WHEREAS, L. David Punch is the eighth pastor of the Greater 
Zion Missionary Baptist Church, a historic 123-year-old church 
located in the Third Ward of Houston; and
	WHEREAS, During his two years as the church's shepherd, 
Pastor Punch has become noted for his vivacious manner and 
missionary zeal and for his meaningful and effective leadership; 
and
	WHEREAS, Dedicated to helping others, this beloved pastor 
has been a source of strength to his church members during their 
hardships, and his guidance has brought them enlightenment and 
hope; and
	WHEREAS, A well-known community leader, Pastor Punch 
serves as president of Re-Ward Third, Incorporated, as cochair
of Spirituality Thread of the Third Ward Community Cloth 
Cooperative, and as associate director of the Alice M. Sidney 
Education Foundation Corporation; and
	WHEREAS, The congregation of Greater Zion Missionary 
Baptist Church is joyfully celebrating the second anniversary of 
Pastor Punch's outstanding leadership on February 13, 2005; now, 
therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby join the members of Greater Zion Missionary
Baptist Church in Houston in commending Reverend L. David Punch
for his dedicated service to the church, his fellow man, and the 
community; and, be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
him as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
