SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 44

	WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the 
employees of the Office of the Comptroller of Public Accounts
in bidding farewell to Ruben R. Valdés, who is retiring on 
January 31, 2005, after 27 years of state service; and
	WHEREAS, Ruben began his career with the comptroller's 
office in the Franchise Tax Division; he later transferred to
the Field Operations Division and then to the Revenue Accounting 
Division, Exceptions Section, where he served until 1979; and
	WHEREAS, Ruben spent twelve months in San Antonio as an 
accountant with Valero Energy and returned to the comptroller's 
office to work in the Revenue Accounting Division; in June of 
1980, he joined Audit Processing in the Field Operations 
Division; he has dealt specifically with, and excelled in,
the hearings portion of the Audit Processing function for the 
last dozen years and has served as the Subject Matter Expert and 
trainer to numerous employees; and
	WHEREAS, Over the years, Ruben has proven his expertise in 
the field audit redetermination function and has been dedicated 
to upholding the high standards required of this position; Ruben 
has strived to improve the scope of the redetermination function, 
in particular, as well as the mission of the Audit Processing 
Section; and
	WHEREAS, Ruben is an avid outdoorsman who enjoys running, 
cycling, canoeing, camping, and hiking; he is beloved and 
respected by his colleagues at work, and his presence in the 
Office of the Comptroller of Public Accounts will be greatly 
missed; now, therefore, be it
	RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend Ruben R. Valdés for his
27 years of outstanding service as a state employee; and,
be it further
	RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for 
him as an expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
