SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 49
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased
to recognize the City of Grand Prairie and to welcome the
Grand Prairie delegation to the State Capitol on February 22, 2005;
and
WHEREAS, Since its incorporation in 1909, Grand Prairie
has served as home to many generations of Texans; this friendly
and economically vibrant city now has over 140,000 residents; and
WHEREAS, Grand Prairie was first known as Dechman, named
after Alexander McRae Dechman, whose property became the site of
the current city; and
WHEREAS, The people of Grand Prairie take great pride in
their community; they are ably served by the Grand Prairie
Independent School District, which celebrated its 100th anniversary
during the 2002-2003 school year; Joe Pool Lake, set among the
rolling hills of south Grand Prairie, serves more than one million
visitors each year; recent efforts by the city have created a
thriving economy which has recently attracted more than 3,000
jobs and $150 million in investments; and
WHEREAS, Known as one of the best places to live, work, and
raise a family, Grand Prairie was honored with a 2003 Keep Texas
Beautiful Governor's Award; and
WHEREAS, The people of Grand Prairie are proud of their
many achievements and look forward to an even more prosperous
future; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby proclaim February 22, 2005, Grand Prairie
Day at the State Capitol and extend best wishes to the city's
delegation for a memorable visit to the Capitol; and, be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the City of Grand Prairie as an expression of esteem from the
Texas Senate.
