SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 50
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased
to join the administration, faculty, and students of
William B. Travis High School of Austin, Texas, in recognizing
the school's Top 10 African-American seniors; and
WHEREAS, February of 2005 is being celebrated by citizens
across the country as African-American Heritage Month, and
William B. Travis High School is recognizing these students
for their superior academic performance as part of its
African-American Heritage Month celebration; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the month, the high school will
commemorate the heritage of African-Americans and pay tribute
to an ethnic group whose members have contributed in countless
ways to our country's enrichment; and
WHEREAS, In the tradition of recognizing the outstanding
accomplishments of individuals of African-American heritage
during the month of February, the school is honoring Top 10 seniors
Sir Derrick Lott, Deanna Dugan, Schunn Harris, Shanikka Nunn,
Chinedum Njoku, Gabriel Harris, Tavorick Essix, Mondrae Thompson,
Veronica Godbolt, and Oscar Williams for their scholarly
achievements; and
WHEREAS, These students are exceptionally talented and
consistently strive for excellence in all of their endeavors, and
African-American Heritage Month is an appropriate time to pay
tribute to them for their hard work and many accomplishments;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend these Top 10 African-American
seniors of William B. Travis High School for their stellar
educational achievements and extend best wishes to them for the
future; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared in
their honor and as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
