SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 61
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased
to recognize Project CRAFT (Community, Reintegration,
Apprenticeship-Focused Training) in Dallas on the occasion of
its graduation ceremony being held on January 31, 2005; and
WHEREAS, Project CRAFT is a six-month initiative that
provides young offenders living in the Dallas County Youth Village
with vocational training in construction trades that can lead to
jobs in the home building industry; and
WHEREAS, The program is through a grant from WorkSource for
Dallas County in partnership with the Home Builders Institute,
the Dallas County Youth Village, and The Transition Resource
Action Center; and
WHEREAS, This year, 32 residents of Youth Village
renovated their own vocational building and classrooms, where
they installed carpet, painted, and built workbenches and tables;
the class also completed two community service projects at local
churches and homes; life skills and math and literacy training,
a general equivalency diploma (GED) program, and job placement
assistance are offered; and
WHEREAS, Project CRAFT offers valuable vocational training
to its participants, and it has been recognized as a model
intervention program for rehabilitation and reduced recidivism
for juvenile offenders; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby commend Project CRAFT students on the
occasion of their graduation in Dallas and extend congratulations
and best wishes to the young graduates; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared as an
expression of high regard from the Texas Senate.
