SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 63
In Memory
of
Marguerita Chapman
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas joins the
citizens of Austin in mourning the loss of Marguerita Chapman,
who died January 9, 2004, at the age of 57; and
WHEREAS, Marguerita was born April 12, 1946, in
London, England, to Dr. Norman James and Maud James; she was
raised in Melbourne, Australia, where she completed her nurse's
training; she moved to the United States when she was 18; and
WHEREAS, She married Jerry Chapman in Dallas on
August 26, 1967, and moved with her family to Austin in 1975;
she graduated from The University of Texas at Austin and devoted
her life to her family and her church; she was an active member
of Saint Matthew's Episcopal Church and of the Daughters of
The King Episcopal Order; and
WHEREAS, Marguerita was an extraordinary woman whose
search for reality was beautiful; she was a model of strength and
courage, and her ability to find joy in everyday life in spite of
personal challenges was an inspiration to those who knew her; and
WHEREAS, She loved her family, traveling, particularly to
Scotland, and classical music, especially the Three Tenors;
she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and she leaves
behind memories that will be treasured forever by her family and
many friends; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby honor and commemorate the life of
Marguerita Chapman and extend sincere condolences to her bereaved
family: her husband, Jerry Chapman; her son, James Chapman;
her daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Alex Serrano; her brothers,
Dr. Karl James, Johann James, and Dr. Pietro James; and her
adored granddaughter, Ava; and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
the members of her family as an expression of deepest sympathy
from the Texas Senate, and that when the Senate adjourns this
day, it do so in memory of Marguerita Chapman.
