SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 71
WHEREAS, The Senate of the State of Texas is pleased to
recognize Mrs. Emery Poindexter Payne for her 50 years of
outstanding service as minister of music at the Fourth
Missionary Baptist Church in Houston; and
WHEREAS, Mrs. Payne has been an inspiration to the
congregation of the Fourth Missionary Baptist Church by
faithfully sharing her gift of music and her calling to music
ministry for half a century; and
WHEREAS, A woman of spiritual depth and devotion,
Mrs. Payne has dedicated herself to filling worship services
with music that spiritually uplifts her fellow church members;
and
WHEREAS, Currently, Mrs. Payne also serves as minister of
music for the Independent Missionary Baptist Association of
Texas; and
WHEREAS, In recognition of Mrs. Payne's outstanding work,
Reverend Walter F. Houston of the Fourth Missionary Baptist
Church and church members will host a golden banquet celebration
in her honor on February 19, 2005; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That the Senate of the State of Texas,
79th Legislature, hereby join the clergy and members of
the Fourth Missionary Baptist Church in commending
Mrs. Emery Poindexter Payne for her dedicated service as
music minister and extend to her best wishes for the future;
and, be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution be prepared for
her as an expression of esteem from the Texas Senate.
